| Gorman's Clifftop House is surely one of the most westerly establishments in Europe. The house looks out over Smerwick Harbour to the Three Sisters and the vastness of the Atlantic beyond. Vincent Gorman's family settled this land in the 1700s, and his wife, Sile (pronounced Sheila), proudly proclaims that she came here on holiday over 25 years ago and if anything loves it more than ever. Dingle is all about long sandy beaches and tall cliffs peppered with little coves and harbours. There are mountains in the background, and hedgerows burgeoning with wild fuchsias. Irish is the first language of the local people, and traditional culture is very much part of everyday life from the fishermen hauling in lobster pots to spontaneous outbreaks of music and dance. Around and about there are walks, golf, and archaeological sites to visit. Every room at Gorman s pays homage to the landscape offering breathtaking views of mountains or the ocean. The spacious bedrooms are furnished in pine offset by hand-thrown pottery lamps and tapestry wall hangings. Mini suites boast King size beds and Jacuzzi bath. Downstairs guests can gather around the fire to read or chat, dine handsomely, and sit out in the garden to watch the sun set behind Ballydavid Head on a summer's evening. | |||||||||||||||||||||
