Bed and Breakfasts in Murroe

Nine miles (14 km) east of Limerick city, on the hillside of Murroe Village, is the modern Benedictine establishment, Glenstal Abbey. It is a Castellated nineteenth-century mansion that was once the family seat of the Barringtons (who founded Barrington's Hospital in Limerick city in 1820). The castle was taken over by the Benedictines in 1927 and transformed into a modern college run on traditional Benedictine lines. Among the beautiful structural features that have been preserved is a door, replica in stone of the Hiberno-Romanesque door-way of Killaloe Cathedral.
